In the past, there have been many different Snowboarding games. Some of the most popular over the years have been: Cool Boarders, Shaun Paulmer’s Pro Snowboarder, SSX, and Amped. But there has always been one snowboarding game that has left a permanent mark on people, especially Nintendo fans, and that one game is: 1080 Snowboarding. It has been a long 5 years since the original 1080 first arrived on the scene, and now 1080 Avalanche, the series long await sequel is getting ready to hit the slopes.
Whether you were obsessed with the original 1080, or really just have no idea what I’m going on about, Avalanche, just like its older brother, is going to be very easy to pick up, and start pulling huge tricks. The gameplay is very much the same the second time around, with a few unique little add-on’s. Avalanche will include a new balancing feature which you will have to use while you’re speeding down the mountain, or landing a trick, to keep your character from falling face first into the snow. If you do manage to face plant, be ready for some amazing partical effects, where the snow will actually be stuck to your boarder and brush off as you get back up and start riding again.
Something that a lot of people felt was missing from the original 1080° was 4 player multiplayer action; not anymore. Now you and 3 friends can rip it up on the course of your choice with your favorite original or one of the brand new characters. Avalanche will feature a few more modes including the single player mode that was found in the first 1080°. No word on any secret hidden characters, but I know I’ll be looking out for a certain big-headed Panda.
Unlike SSX: Tricky and it’s insane, completely unrealistic (but still great fun) courses, 1080° features more realistic course layouts with some amazing environmental conditions, such as: powder, and icy patches. Other skiers and animals will be features throughout some of the courses (Finally!) which you will have to avoid (or run right into as it’s probably a lot of fun) in addition to collapsing bridges, cave-ins, and Avalanches (it shouldn’t be called 1080°: Avalanche without them).
1080°: Avalanche is just around the corner, so you’ll be tearing up your favorite free-style and slalom courses in no time at all. But before you lace up your boots and clip into your board, we’ll take a few tests runs and let you know if this is the place you want to be boarding this September.
