SSX 3

SSX has been and always was up there with the rest of the top snowboarding games. And by the rest, I mean 1080. SSX was the only real competition it had in the beginning, but now after its second update, SSX Tricky, EA is pushing out another: SSX3, a proper sequel this time too SSX.

Visually. SSX3 is already looking better than Tricky.

First of all, the most notable change EA Canada has take upon SSX, is the concept of one mountain and one mountain only. The whole game is based upon a single enormous mountain, and they’re bringing much more open ended and free levels too. SSX will still have its city rides, and its night time runs, except they will all be located on the same mountain this time. And you can access different parts of the mountain in one session. (Go from top to bottom if you fancy the journey)

The crew riding for SSX 3 this time around is quite familiar, with a few new faces. Psymon, Elise, Mac, Kaori, Zoe, and Moby are amongst the ones fans of the series will recognize. And they are joined by these four newbies: Griff, Viggo, Nate, and Allegra.

EA Canada has also improve the visuals to this baby. Also, a more important new feature to this new title is “data-streaming technology”. This makes sure there isn’t a load screen anywhere when you’re boarding. And you’ll definitely notice this when coming down the mountain. The courses and modes you select on the mountain, are actual areas on the mountain, and certain paths lead to certain options. For instance, coming down a run, at the end of it you see a new path that splits into a fork. To one side you have a slope leading to “Big Air” and “Slopestyle” whereas on the other side, it’s labeled options. Options would let you switch your board etc. So you see the different approach EA Canada is taking. You could call it a more realistic approach, to an extent, save for the fact that the game is based around “out of this world” combos and “uber tricks”.

You will now be able to manual your board. Presumably making it easier to link combos.

Speaking of Uber tricks, EA is playing with the idea of stringing numerous Uber tricks together, making for much more exciting and challenging combos. There will also be a much wider variety of grinds, and the inclusion of handplants.

The soundtrack to SSX 3 still remains undecided. Whatever it is, it’s sure to have those annoying pop up buttons for “EA TRAX”. Nevertheless, SSX 3 is already shaping up to be the best title in the series, and even possibly the king of boarders (For now. Wait until 1080 : Avalanche, then we’ll see).

SSX 3 is set to hit the mountains in early August. Check the review on SSX 3, when the game hits shelves.
