Spawn: Armageddon

Namco is setting out once again to bring us another action packed game, this time entitled Spawn: Armageddon. Spawn is a comic book character created by none other than Todd McFarlane, and with his vast assortment of original weapons, super human strength, and a down right awesome costume, this game could already be on its way to greatness.

If you’re not a hardcore comic book fan, you’re probably wondering exactly what the history behind Spawn is, and exactly where he got his costume that would make even Batman jealous. He was originally a soldier by the name of Al Simmons, who was killed in part of a conspiracy. He was then resurrected as a Hellspawn, an agent who works for the demon Malebolgia. Although he was then working for the apocalypse, he was still the same good guy underneath, and decided to escape from his forced path and go against evildoers. And so the legacy of Spawn was created, and for over a decade now we have been able to see Spawn in many different mediums, whether it’s comics, movies, or even toys. There have been Spawn video games made in the past, though none of which anyone would be caught dead referring too, so Namco has set out to attempt to change all of that. Oh, And as for the costume, we can only assume it came with the job.

One of the reasons for the games “Mature” rating.

In Spawn: Armageddon you will have the task of taking out angels. Yes angels. In this strange twist of events the angels turn out to be the bad guys; in a way. They have set out to destroy hell, which you might think is a good thing - but in fact - due to the size of their weapons there would be a chain reaction so large, that as it destroyed the underworld, it would take Earth along with it. So you will have to take these renegade angels head on, in a mission to save the world.

When it comes down to gameplay, Spawn is your everyday 3rd person action game, where you’ll have to go around solving puzzles here and there, and completely numerous missions. It is by no means a break through in originality but of course that’s not necessarily anything bad. You will go through many dark and eerie places, battling villains left and right, and if you’re a Spawn comic book fan you may just notice a few familiar faces. You will earn power ups throughout the game which will help to enhance your abilities. You will also find comic books around the game, for reasons, unknown at this point.

Can Spawn handle two ladies at the same time? You damn straight he can.

Control wise there is nothing extremely special about Spawn: Armageddon. They will be fairly standard controls with 4 types of attacks. The first of which is the basic Melee attack where you will be able to strike enemies with your axe. The other types of attacks include a variety of firearms, “Hell Power” abilities, and attacks involving Spawn’s chains. These chains can act as grappling hooks, and along with Spawn’s cape that can be used to glide, and his double jump, you’ll be able to go exploring easily.

From the looks of things, Namco’s Spawn: Armageddon is shaping up to be something to watch out for. It has everything you would want from an adventure game, with some special Spawn add-ons. If things continue on the same track, Spawn fans will finally have a game they won’t be embarrassed to call their own, and for action game fans, this may be something you will want to keep an eye on during this holiday season.
